LIPOCALIN 2 This item specifically recognises human Lipocalin-2 (LCN2), otherwise known as Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), a secreted glycoprotein and member of the Lipocalin family, which is highly expressed in the bone marrow, lungs, stomach, liver and adipose tissue, and is implicated in innate immunity and apoptosis. _x000D_LCN2 acts as a protein transporter, through the binding of small lipophilic substances in the hydrophobic core. Expression of LCN2 is up-regulated during inflammation, and plays an important role in the innate immune response, by binding to bacterial iron-containing siderophores, limiting bacterial growth.
